Ongoing Summer Events

  • Baseball League - Seven teams are participating in the BayBears Rookie League. The season continues through July 9. Each team will play 10 games. Games are held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. at Sage Park. For more information, contact Donald Belle at 434-2210.
  • Tennis Classes - Tennis classes are being offered for youth who live in the Mobile Housing Board's affordable housing developments. Classes are held Mondays and Fridays from 9-11 a.m. through July 23 at Central Plaza Towers. For more information, contact Donald Belle at 434-2210. 
  • Exploreum Trips - The Community Services department and resident associations are coordinating field trips to the Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Center. Families that would like to visit the Exploreum this summer should contact their resident association president or call Wayman Grant at 434-2211.

  • 28 - Real Estate Department Homebuyer Class. Families in the city of Mobile may attend the free weekly homebuyer education classes offered from 4-6 p.m. at Revelation Baptist Church (1711 Taylor Lane). This week's homebuyer education topic is "Health, Safety and Energy Conservation." For more information, contact the Real Estate Department at 434-2205.
  • 29 - SWEET-P Awards Ceremony. The eight-week summer jobs program will close the 2010 summer with an awards ceremony, held from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Bishop State Community College Baker-Gaines Central Campus. For more information about the ceremony, contact Sonya Curtis at 470-0226.
  • 30 - Mobile Housing Board Logo Design Contest Deadline. The Mobile Housing Board is sponsoring a contest for a new MHB logo. The contest is open to all MHB residents and employees. For more information about the contest, contact the Mobile Housing Board at 434-2212.

  • 03 - Small Business Workshop: "Introduction to QuickBooks." The Small Business Development department is hosting an entrepreneurial workshop, free for low-to-moderate income individuals residing with the city limits. The workshop will be held at the Clinton L. Johnson Center for Economic Development from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Space is limited. To reserve your seat at the workshop, contact Margaret DeBose at 470-0556.
  • 10 - Central Plaza Towers' Assisted Living Facility Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony, in conjunction with the Central Plaza Towers' Franklin Primary Medical Center Grand Opening. The new Mobile Housing Board assisted living facility and the Franklin Primary Medical Center clinic at CPT will have a joint ribbon-cutting ceremony and grand opening event at 10:30 a.m., to be followed with a reception and tour of the facility.   • 10 - Central Plaza Towers' Franklin Primary Medical Center Clinic Grand Opening. The FPMC grand opening will be held in conjunction with the Central Plaza Towers' Assisted Living Facility ribbon-cutting ceremony.
