PUBLIC HOUSING 


The Mobile Housing Board’s (MHB) Public Housing Program consists of over 4,000 units of conventional public housing located in 16 family and senior developments. Unit sizes range from 1 – 6 bedrooms (not all sizes available at all sites).

  Basic Public Housing Eligibility Criteria 

  • The head of household must be 19 years of age or older (or an emancipated minor) unless married and applying with a spouse who is 19 years or older.
  • Family’s total, gross annual income cannot exceed HUD-established income limits for participation in the Public Housing Program.  Income includes all “countable” income anticipated for the coming year.

Examples of countable income include, but are not limited to; wages, unemployment benefits, workmen’s compensation, Social Security, Pensions, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Temporary Aid to Needy Families (TANF), regular contributions from family or friends, and child support payments.

How to Apply for Public Housing 
  •  Applications for public housing are available for all open waiting lists by mail or fax.
     Simply call (251)434-2258 and request an application packet from the site(s) of your choice..

     Note:  Waiting lists are opened and closed based on availability of units and the
               lengths of existing waiting lists.

  •  If you prefer to pick-up an application, they are available at the following locations:

  •  Applications are received, dated ; time stamped, and processed at the development's management office.

The Mobile Housing Board employs a site-based waiting list system with some sites having longer waiting lists than others.  Applicants may appear on as many site lists as they desire (exception being senior only developments).
