CAREER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS
Participant Requirements
Participants must meet the following requirements

19 years or older
-
Be from a low or
moderate-income household in the City of Mobile
-
Have a high
school diploma or GED (Except for Job Readiness course)
-
Provide a City of
Mobile police background check (Except for Job Readiness course)
-
Successfully pass
an interview

Entry into the Office Assistant
program requires a typing speed of 25 cwpm.
Keyboarding
This course is designed to develop computer
literacy by teaching students the basic operations of a computer
through the use of word processing software. Students will develop
the touch method of operating a keyboard.
Keyboarding is a pre-requisite to Office Assistant.
Computer Training
Students
master basic skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.
Child Care
This course prepares students for work in a child daycare.
Certified Nursing Assistant
This program is designed to prepare
individuals for employment in the healthcare profession. The
program
provides participants with an opportunity to learn new skills through
classroom instruction and hands-on-training.
Life Skills and Customer Service
Upon completing a training course, the student
is require to enroll in a Life Skills and Customer Service class.
Life Skills teaches everyday living and business etiquette and how to
conduct an effective job search.
Job Readiness (No high
school diploma or GED required)
This course is designed for
participants with marketable skills but do not know how to job
search. Activities may
involve resume preparation, how to conduct themselves in an interview,
appropriate dress and language, being
on time, how to contact an employer, etc.
Job Placement Assistance
Once a student has completed their training
course and Life Skills, he/she is eligible for job placement assistance.
