HOW DOES THE FSS PROGRAM WORK?

A Family Self Sufficiency Career Counselor connects families with the appropriate support services and resources in their communities needed to move toward self-sufficiency. The FSS Career Counselors initiate a five year plan that identifies the participant’s employment goals and specifies any training or educational needs that the participant may have. The FSS participant, with the help of their Career Counselor, sets their own training and educational goals. They follow their dreams towards self-sufficiency!!

The FSS case managers will work with the members of the household to locate and arrange for services that will meet the participant’s goals.

YOUR RENT CAN BECOME YOUR SAVINGS!!

When you become a FSS participant, you are in a unique position to save money.  As you gain better employment and earn more money, your rent will increase. If you become an FSS participant, the amount that your rent increases as a result of earned income will be deposited into a special savings account (escrow ccount) for you!!

When you complete all of your goals, all of the money in this savings account will be yours. Some participants have saved enough money to put down payments on their own homes with the escrow savings account. This is your chance to make your rent work for you!!!

Run to the MHB’s Family Service Department to begin your path to self-sufficiency.
